Youth Programming

Our Youth Programming is centered around love. By exploring the Unitarian Universalist shared values, we aim to educate youth on how to hone the skills needed to ground themselves in this liberal religion.

• We want to make sure our youth know they are an important part of this community. Here they should feel safe to ask questions and explore new ideas. They should feel welcome as they are and for who they are. They should know that they too have valuable gifts and talents that make this world a better, brighter place.

• We hope our youth feel like they are a part of the Unitarian Universalist tradition. We want them to know the tenets of the church and be able to articulate what it means to be a UU. Free thinking, questioning, and personal discovery are the order of the day. We want our youth take pride in their part of learning about this liberal faith.

• We educate our youth to know about other religious faiths and to celebrate the ideas brought to the world by other cultures and religions. We want them to develop tolerance for ideas and people that are not part of their everyday life. We teach them to know that they have the ability to use ideas from other faith traditions and blend them into their own a personal theology. Unitarian Universalism is a religion that allows for personal growth and diversity.

• We help our youth to develop a social responsibility consciousness. We want them to feel they can and should make a difference in this world. We build awareness of people and causes out in the world that cry out for assistance and that they can and should reach out to offer their time and talents.

• We are building a place where our youth are able to think and talk about what is important and relevant to them, whether it be commonplace life issues like getting along with others, ability, bullying, identity and discrimination or harder concepts like death, peace and war, sexuality, or violence. Together, we are creating a space that is judgement free and kindness centered, a safe forum in which to explore ideas and to get input. Regardless of age, all youth need places to think out loud and to gather ideas and feedback. Mesabi UU is one of those places where they can connect, develop and challenge their ideas!
